San Simeon, California is located on State Route 1 approximately halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The town itself consists of about .8 miles, with a the population of about 462 people (give or take a few). Although the town is “little” the Chamber of Commerce boasts that “San Simeon’s attractions make it the biggest “little” town in California. The average temperature in San Simeon is 68.7 degrees. A key feature of this community is Hearst Castle. This hilltop mansion was built in the early 20th century by William Randolph Hearst. The castle hosts millions of visitors each year. Up the highway from San Simeon you can find the “louder” residents of San Simeon. Our elephant seals. More than 15,000 elephant seals populate a secluded area just south of the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse. It is located seven miles north of San Simeon on Highway 1. The viewing area is clearly marked along State Route 1.
No motor vehicle shall be parked or left standing upon any street, highway, or public area within San Simeon Community Services District for seventy two or more consecutive hours.
It is unlawful for any person to sleep in any vehicle parked on any street within the San Simeon Community Services District between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. of the following day.”
